Steven Mercurio

A pupil of Leonard Bernstein, Maestro Steven Mercurio is an internationally recognised conductor and composer whose musical scope spans the world of opera and symphonies.
Having performed more than forty-five operas in seven different languages, he has also worked at a great many top opera houses in Europe and the US, while also leading philharmonic orchestras in London, Vienna, Prague as well as Sydney, not to mention conducting major symphonic orchestras in the United States. 

Other accolades include an impressive range of successful performances and recordings such as for instance the premiere full version of Zemlinsky’s  “Der Zwerg” performed at the Teatro dell'Opera in Rome; and releasing a Grammy award-winning CD featuring the jazz piano legend Chick Corea.

Maestro Mercurio’s composition work encompasses songs, chamber compositions and orchestral pieces. Inspired by the American playwright Eugene O'Neill's "Last Will and Testament of Silverdene Emblem O'Neill,"Mercurio’s first symphony “A Grateful Tail” was performed at the Prague Proms festival in 2013.

Maestro Mercurio is also a highly acclaimed and sought after arranger, having adapted compositions for a wide range of artists including Andrea Bocelli, Placido Domingo, Secret Garden and Sting. 

Steven Mercurio has been working with the Czech National Symphony orchestra for a number of years, performing classic works as well as fusions with symphonic orchestra and a variety of genres at concerts as well as featuring as part of the Prague Proms International Music Festival. The CNSO concerts featuring Czech formation Pražský Výběr at the O2 Arena and Forum Karlín were particular highlights along with his New York Voices concert in the Smetana Hall in 2014. He accepted the position of the orchestra’s Music Director in 2019.
